Dan Gillmor, "We Media" author, speaks at Harvard's Berkman Center
Colin Rhinesmith Dan Gillmor, Citizen Media, and The Threat to PEG Access
Dan Gillmor, a former San Jose Mercury-News technology columnist and the author of "We The Media", has begun a trans-continental dual fellowship at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School and at the University of California-Berkeley. On Tues., Jan. 17, he spoke about his new project, the Center for Citizen Media, in a luncheon appearance which is audio blogged as a downloadable MP3. Thoughts on his talk are posted by Colin Rhinesmith, of the Berkman Center, and by Ethan Zuckerman, a fellow Berkman fellow and Williams College grad. Ethan's wife started Inkberry, in North Adams. Ethan's latest project is "Global Voices." One theme raised by Collin in his blog post of Gillmor's talk -- the potential that the FCC may lift the rules which allow local community to contractually require cable systems to contribute to the support of public-access stations such as WilliNet and Northern Berkshire Community Television.
